| This is the GP2D120 by Sharp. We have a datasheet stored. The color of the LED is λ=850nm ± 70 nm which is clearly beyond the visible red which runs up to 700nm. Measures to maximum 30cm with an optimum at 3 cm. smashingrobotigs.
We also have the QRB1134 by Fairchild which does about the same at a much shorter range.
